Tips to Avoid Plasma Burn-In on a New Plasma Television

Most plasma televisions need a break-in period when they are brand new. They usually require a little special care during the first few weeks of their life. Taking a few simple precautions will help ensure you get the most from your plasma television purchase. Here are a few tips to follow when you begin watching your brand new plasma TV.
1. Turn down the brightness and contrast. You can reduce the brightness and contrast, and still have great picture quality, by making sure to position your television out of direct sunlight. If the display settings are set on vivid mode, change the setting to standard. Most plasmas come with vivid mode as the factory setting.
2. Don't use your new plasma for displaying a video game system for the first 100 hours or so. Video games tend to have static graphics which can cause plasma burn in the early weeks of use.
3. While watching television, try to avoid channels that have static graphic logos. At the very least, don't watch these types of channels for long periods of time. Many premium channels and news programs have logos that never leave the screen. Switch to a different station from time to time.
4. Be sure to turn off your plasma television when not in use. Simply because of fact that they use plasma for display, plasma televisions have a set life expectancy. You can refer to your owners manual to find out how many hours of enjoyment you can expect from your plasma. The less use they receive, they longer they will last.
This is basically all you need to do to prepare your new plasma for many years of viewing. After the break-in period, it is much harder for a plasma screen to burn. You can change the display settings to whatever suits you best, and begin playing video games as well. Just use common sense and don't leave video games unattended for hours at a time.
I use my own plasma for playing video games all the time, but I always turn it off if I have to leave it for a while. I do this most often when I don't have a save point and want to leave the game system running.
Ghosting is normal, while plasma burn is not. Ghosting is a brief picture imprint left over from a previous screen. This fades away quickly. Plasma burn does not fade away, and can be permanent. A picture or graphic is actually burned right into the screen.
If you find that your plasma television has somehow developed a picture burn, there is a trick that you can try at home, before calling a repair technician or taking it for service. Just watching a movie can sometimes take care of light picture burn.

Starting Your Own Online TV Network

Online TV is a new wave of entertainment sweeping across the globe. With Sites such as Hulu, Justin, veetle and ustream popping up everywhere, the technology for online broadcasting is steadily progressing and the broadband speeds are steadily increasing; it won't be long until we will start seeing the Big 4 putting up a live online streams.
A lot of people don't have digital cable; satellite tv and only have broadband - In 2007 the broadcaster would have to stream at 1300 mb/s to achieve a High Quality broadcast and in 2010 the broadcaster would have to stream at 900 kb/s to achieve a High Quality broadcast.
Thanks to the increasing technology and sites such as veetle and their unique streaming platform today the broadcaster would have to stream at 600 kb/s to achieve a High Quality broadcast. More and more people are starting their own Online TV Network - But' where there is good, there is always the bad. a lot of these home based TV Networks are broadcasting copyrighted content and with the popularity of online tv increasing, more and more channels are getting shut down for copyright infringement. There are ways to stream movies online legally that those movies are in the Public Domain.
If a movie isn't public domain, you can bet on it that you're breaking national and international copyright laws. You can visit sites such as archive to gain access to a large number of public domain movies.
If you want to become a broadcaster and stream other peoples content, you must first make the person(s) sign an agreement that s/he is granting you the permission to show their movie on the site you're wanting to stream on. You will NOT be granted a license to show any blockbuster movie. Another way is to contact independent film makers and tell them that you want to "Screen" their movie on your website or channel to your audience. You wouldn't believe how easy it is. If you don't get an answer back the first time wait to a later date and contact them again. Never Give Up!
a lot of people ask me "Can i make money broadcasting?" Short answer, yes you can - But Don't discloses this information unless the person(s) requests it. Ustream.com has a Pay-Per-View feature for partners where you can charge a fee to the ones that wants to see your broadcast.
Justin.tv and Veetle.com has a partner program as well - but Justin.tv and Veetle.com or currently in beta, both sites will let you monetize your broadcast in the near future. To become a partner with veetle you currently have to be recommended by an admin and only for gamers at this time.
To become a partner on veetle simply go to the bottom and of veetle.com and click on "Partner" and fill out the contact form. One of the staff members will set up a phone interview with you and if you're accepted in their partner program, your broadcast will be on the first 3 pages of the category you choose and will gradually climb to the homepage depending on the views you get. Currently at the time of writing this, the monetization system is still in beta and not available yet.
You can also start a blog or forum with ads form Google AdSense or any other ad network and put a link on your channel and embed the video on your site with a unique chat system. Just Don't Force people to go to your site. Another thing you can do, Let's say you start a cooking show, go to all the companies that offer products for cooking and record a show and send them a video and tell them that you're a broadcaster and you're looking for a sponsor on so and so website and them how many views you get a day and put a place holder commercial telling them that their info commercial can be showed here every 30 minutes or whatever, and tell them that you will show their products in your show.

Take Full Advantage of Your Satellite TV - Four Ways to Really Use Your DVR

Long gone are the days of VHS tapes and struggles to record your favorite shows only to find them lost in an oblivion of snow. Do I set the recorder to the cable channel? What time does the show really end? Where did I leave the instructions for this, and why are there so many options?
Today, satellite TV users are lucky enough to have Digital Video Recorders - DVRs. These features allow you to digitally record your favorite shows and movies. If you've already eyed a program you want to record, you can set the DVR to the specific time and channel of whatever it is that you would like to see. If you do not know the exact scheduling of a certain program but do know that you would like to watch it, you can set your DVR to record that program every time it is on. And while you're watching television, you can pause a program in order to do something else for a while and come back to it whenever you are ready.
Yes, DVR is really an excellent satellite TV feature. You may not, however, be using it to your full advantage. Take a look at these ways to really get all that you can out of your Digital Video Recorder.
1. Movies
Instead of spending money and time heading to the video rental store to pick up a film, why not record one on your DVR and watch it later? You will be able to watch some old classics and new releases without having to put in any effort other than setting your DVR. Plus, you will be able to fast forward through commercials.
2. Fitness
You know all of those fitness videos you bought and never took another look at? While you may do the same with work-out shows you have recorded on your DVR, at least there won't be any economic investment wasted. If you do get around to taking a look at and following along with the tapes, you may be shocked to find out how much you enjoy your workout whenever and wherever you want.
3. Cooking
Cooking shows can be great to watch, but unless you've got time to take note of everything that's going on for a half an hour as the chef slowly goes through the process, they can be tough to learn from. With DVR, you can record cooking shows and later watch them and fast forward to find the most important parts of the recipe.
4. Entertaining
Of course, you won't be able to entertain adult party guests with shows you have on your DVR. Children, however, are another story. You can record some of your children's favorite shows, and on a play date or rainy day, put them on for your kids and their friends. You won't watch them spending the entire day in front of the television, of course, but an hour or two couldn't hurt.

Nigella Lawson: A Potted History and Brief Introduction

Nigella Lawson is one of the most prolific TV chefs in the UK and her success in the UK has transferred smoothly to the US market too. Nigella is the daughter of the former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, a very high-ranking politician from the conservative government of the 80's. Not content to trade on her father's reputation and social status, she embarked upon a career in journalism before turning freelance writer.
Nigella leapt to prominence after she published her first cookbook entitled "How To Eat". This was her breakthrough moment. It sold 300,000 copies and was followed up by "How To Be A Domestic Goddess" which led to a TV series being commissioned in 2000. Nigella Bites was the name of that TV series and it went to air on Channel 4 (UK Terrestrial TV). The TV show was a hit and another best-selling book, Nigella Bites was published on the back of that success.
Nigella's popularity continued to rise in Britain and abroad, and then in 2006 her cooking show called Nigella Feasts debuted in the USA. This show was sold to numerous other countries and demonstrated that Nigella's popularity was now widespread. Christmas Kitchen was the next TV success and shortly after that the BBC commissioned "Nigella Express". This series of cookery shows led to another book by the same name.
When you consider what's behind Nigella's success, it's probably the fact that Nigella takes a straight forward no fuss approach to cooking and eating. Her recipes are a realistic option for busy wives and mothers who simply don't have time to source and prepare the fancy ingredients used by other TV chefs. Indeed, "Nigella Express", was aimed specifically at those who are challenged for time.
Nigella's popularity is doubtless also enhanced by her personal attitude to food. She believes that food is to be enjoyed as much for the social aspects of eating, as well as the taste. Much of the attention Nigella receives comes from her looks. She is widely regarded as a beautiful woman, often being described as "sexy" and "curvy" and frequently featuring high up the usual lists of beautiful women.
The remarkable thing about Nigella is that she has no formal training as a chef, which again leads her hordes of fans to believe that if she can do it, they can do it too. What is more, they can, and they frequently do. If you've never tried a Nigella Lawson recipe, I urge you to give it a go, you won't regret it.

Emeril Lagasse - Proud in His Chef Coat

Emeril Lagasse - celebrity chef, TV personality, restaurateur, and author - became interested in cooking when he was a boy growing up in Fall River, MA. When he was a teenager he worked in black apron in a Portuguese bakery, where he mastered the art of pastry and bread baking. When he graduated from high school he was offered full scholarship to New England Conservatory of Music, but instead he decided to become a professional chef. He earned his degree from the culinary bastion Johnson and Wales University which later bestowed an honorary Doctorate degree upon him.
After graduating, he traveled to France where he learned the art of classical French cuisine. Upon his return to the U.S., he polished his skills at fine restaurants in New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston before settling down as executive chef at the Commander's Palace in New Orleans. In 1990 Lagasse opened his own Emeril's Restaurant in downtown New Orleans' warehouse district; and two years later he opened NOLA in the French Quarter. In 1995 he brought his new-New Orleans style of cooking to Las Vegas, and opened Emeril's New Orleans Fish House in the MGM Grand Hotel. In 1998 he opened Emeril's Delmonico in the historic Garden District of New Orleans. Two more restaurants opened in 1999 - Emeril's Orlando at Universal Studios' City Walk, and the Delmonico Steakhouse in Las Vegas' Venetian Resort. In 2003 he opened Tchoup chop in Universal Orlando's Royal Pacific Resort, and Emeril's Miami Beach in Loew's Miami Beach Hotel. In February 2008 he opened his Table 10 in Las Vegas' Palazzo and in 2009 he opened Emeril's Chop House in his chef coat in the Sands Casino Bethlehem PA, and Lagasse's Stadium in the Palazzo. His most recent project - and his first-ever hamburger joint - Burgers and More by Emeril, was also opened at Sands Bethlehem in 2009.
Lagasse's restaurants have consistently won critical praise and top ratings year after year. Emeril's Restaurant was named the Restaurant of the Year by Esquire Magazine in 1990, and a year later received the prestigious Wine Spectator's Grand Award. That same year the James Beard Foundation named him the Best Southeast Regional Chef. More recently, Emeril's Restaurant won the coveted Ivy Award. NOLA was named the Best New Restaurant by Esquire in 1993, and has been featured in Southern Living and Travel & Leisure magazines. Zagat named Emeril's New Orleans Fish House the Best Restaurant in Las Vegas. Las Vegas Life magazine named Delmonico Steakhouse the Best Steakhouse in town and the restaurant received Wine Spectator magazine's Grand Award two years later.
Emeril Lagasse himself has garnered numerous awards and accolades for his culinary expertise. GQ magazine chose him as Chef of the Year in 1998. The next year he was one of People magazine's 25 most intriguing people of the year. Restaurants & Institutions magazine named him Executive of the Year in corporate identity apparel in 2004. The next year Wine Spectator presented him its Distinguished Service Award for significant contributions to the wine industry. Nation's Restaurant News inducted him into its MenuMasters Hall of Fame in 2006, and the following year New Orleans CityBusiness named him Restaurateur of the Year. In 2009 Food Network gave him its Lifetime Achievement Award. Besides his restaurant work, Lagasse has been host of over two thousand Food Network TV shows and is food correspondent on ABC's Good Morning America. You can watch him on Essence of Emeril on Food Network, and Emeril Live on both Food Network and Cooking Channel.

Simply turn on your high definition television, and the choice is yours!

The thing that is absolutely incredible about satellite TV is that there is just about a channel for every desire you could possibly imagine. Would you like to watch a cartoon channel, that plays animated shorts morning, noon, and night? You have your options. Do you want to watch made-for-TV movies that are targeted towards women? There are multiple satellite channels that might suit your need. What about a cooking channel that is dedicated solely to chefs who are preparing foods for all Americans to watch? Simply turn on your high definition television, and the choice is yours!
But there are some ideas that are maybe even a little bit too crazy for satellite TV. Although, who knows, maybe in a few years they will come standard with every package. Here are some of the best ideas: you are sure to get a laugh or two!
1. The Mafia Channel
This channel would feature anything that has to do with the mafia. This could include television shows like the Sopranos, and movies like The Godfather, Casino, the Departed, and Reservoir Dogs. But it could also include biopics of Mafiosos like Al Capone and Tony Acardo, or documentaries on organized crime in different hubs like Chicago and New York. The channel would certainly feature its fare share of violence, and would not be for the light of heart.
2. The Steve Buschemi Channel
Steve Buschemi is one of those rare character actors who actually has become a relatively known name. This is because he simply is in everything. You can hardly turn on your satellite TV without seeing a film he has been in. His roles include films such as The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Ghost World, 30 Rock, Billy Madison, Con Air, and Armageddon, to name a few. His crooked teeth, his skinny frame, and that imperceptible feeling that he is always on the brink of insanity have made him popular in screwball comedies, quirky indie flicks, and dark psychological thrillers alike. In addition to the dozens upon dozens of films he has been in, the channel could include artist biographies and interviews. It would be almost like a fan club with its own channel on televisions around the world.
3. The Based-on-A-Book Club
Some of the most popular films in this day and age were base on books. This can range from well-loved classic novels like Pride & Prejudice or Huck Finn to recent page-turners and smash hits like the Harry Potter series, The Lovely Bones, or Atonement. Probably half of a dozen channels could be filled up with this genre, and more movies are being made in this vein every month of every year.
4. The Musician Vanity Project Channel
With celebrity culture taking over just about everything else in the United States, there is no shortage of vanity projects to go around. So many musicians, reality TV contestants, and models think that they can act. This has produced a number of hysterically bad pieces of cinema, such as The Hottie and the Nottie with Paris Hilton, or From Justin to Kelly, featuring the winner and runner-up of the first season of American Idol.

Regional sports networks are especially localized, but some examples are NESN and YES.

Most news stations are available at every package level, ensuring that viewers will be able to find a suitable channel to stay informed about world events.
The lifestyle and family channels are perhaps the broadest categories. There are music channels, including BET, VH1, CMT, and MTV. Several family friendly channels and channels geared towards children can be found in the lineup. These channels include TLC, ABC Family, Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network and The Hub. There is The Cooking Channel or Food TV for delicious meal inspirations, and FitTV to help burn off the calories afterward.
There is a wealth of educational programming available on channels such as Animal Planet, The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, NASA TV, National Geographic Channel, and The Science Channel. There are many other miscellaneous special interest channels as well, including Travel Channel, Logo, HGTV, TruTV, Military Channel, and Game Show Network, to name a few.
There are also many sports networks available. ESPN is of course on this list, but there are also channels dedicated to various individual sports, including baseball (MLBN), football (NFL Network), hockey (NHL Network), golf (Golf Channel), and extreme sports (FUEL TV).
The Direct TV channel lineup is not only extensive in number of channels, but also in the variety of programming available. Viewers have many options, no matter what their preferences may be. The lineup ensures that there will be something to suit the needs of all viewers.

Award Winning Italian Meatballs

Here is a recipe for Italian meatballs that helped win a cooking contest that I entered. The prize for the winner was a limo for the night for friends and family and a trip to San Francisco to a top notch Italian restaurant called Fior d'Italia. If you have a recipe for a dish that you love, you might consider entering a cooking contest. There are thousands of cooking contests around the United States.
Some of the winners receive money, prizes or their own cooking show on TV. The Food Network TV channel is always casting for a competition. Check out their web site for; The Next Food Network Star competition.
Here is my Italian meatball recipe. The recipe that won the award is called; "Rigatoni Pasta With Raisin Meatballs And Portabella Mushrooms Topped With A Fresh Tomato-Marsala Sauce."
Chef Vinny's Italian Meatballs
2 lb. Ground beef (chuck or regular) not lean
2 tsp of salt or more if you like
3 large garlic cloves minced
4 eggs
1 tsp of minced dry basil leafs
½ tsp of minced dried oregano
½ tsp of black pepper
¼ cup of fresh chopped parsley
¼ - ½ cup of plain breadcrumbs
¼ cup of grated fresh parmesan or Romano cheese
(Optional) ¼ cup of raisins makes great tasting meatballs!!
Mix all in large bowl with your hands and form meatballs. Place on an oven tray and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes or until they become firm and slightly brown. Don't over cook.
When done place all the meatballs into your favorite pasta tomato sauce and let simmer or medium heat until the meatballs are cooked all the way through. Serve with your favorite pasta. Enjoy!

Top Reasons People Watch Cooking Shows on Satellite TV

With the invention of satellite TV, the number of channels on offer for television watchers has absolutely exploded, ballooning from a few basic networks into hundreds upon hundreds of movie networks, cable spin-off channels, and niche-interest stations. One of the most popular kinds of specialty channels that has emerged in this new era of television watching is the cooking channel, and along with it, the cooking show. You know what this is - it is when a celebrity chef of some sort spends an hour showing Americans how to cook a French-style ratatouille, pick the perfect avocado, or dice garlic with ultimate speed and precision, all in high definition. Often, the show and/or chef who hosts it will have some kind of theme - French or Italian cooking, for example, or family meals, or vegetarian fare. The chefs, if they are not already famous, become known around the country - they open restaurants, publish cooking books, and take stands on public health and diet issues.
From these satellite TV cooking shows a whole new genre of reality show has emerged: the competitive chef competition. There are too many of these programs to name, including Iron Chef, The Next Food Network Star, Top Chef, Chopped, and Dinner Impossible. Viewers stay glued to their satellite TVs as contestants compete to create the best soufflés, or to find an inventive way to use an odd ingredient jicama, or to cook a meal for 100 people with only two hours notice.
But why do people watch these shows, exactly? It makes sense that someone might want to watch a competition based on strength, or intelligence, or will power, because people have been competing with each other based on those qualities and characteristics for their entire lives, from school to their jobs to the playing field. There is inherent human drama in those types of reality shows, only heightened to extreme degrees to make it more engaging. But cooking, in a certain sense, does not have that same inherent competitive nature. Cooking is usually associated with maternal nourishing, sensual enjoyment, health and wellbeing, and family celebrations. The entertainment value of watching other people cook is a little bit more mysterious.
Perhaps people turn to these shows so that they can learn tips on how to craft the best meals, or to learn new recipes. First of all, many people have not learned how to cook from older generations of women as they used to, and need to turn to outside influences to learn the proper techniques. Second of all, in our increasingly multicultural society, most people would be bored by eating the same couple of dishes over and over again, week after week. So they look to the television to learn new tricks.
Other people just like watching the delicious food in high definition, which is available now on all brand new televisions. They can see very molecule of food, and their mouths water as they see the savory sauces drip around the plate. And some others simply like competition of any kind, and all the human drama that it produces.
